Many of us who come from different cultures (especially Asian Americans and immigrant communities) have grown up around tried-and-true “alternative”, folk, or otherwise traditional holistic health remedies and practices. While living in the U.S., we’re also taught the importance of western science and medicine- and the COVID-19 vaccine is no exception. What should we do when we find that a friend or family member- or even yourself- doubts the efficacy of one in favor of the other? How can we maintain cultural practices in the best interest of vaccine equity for our community’s health?
Join Hamkae Center for a discussion about the values of practicing both western and non-western medicine in exercising health and wellness! We’ll be joined by Nancy Xiong, a Certified Reiki Energy Healing Practitioner, and Zubair Saeed, Fairfax County Health Department’s Community Health Specialist.
This program is a great opportunity to address any questions about the vaccine/booster shots or to learn how to approach this discussion with family and friends. Through respecting cultural practices, we hope to empower community members to better protect themselves.
