This AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the vibrant cultures that shape our community and honor our heritage by ensuring no neighbor is left behind due to a language barrier. Many of our families still face a “language gap” that prevents them from accessing health care, legal support, and important information about their child’s education.
Our Impact: Turning Vision to Action
That is why we organize Asian Americans in Virginia to achieve social, economic, and racial justice. This past year, our collective organizing power achieved:
Direct Support: services we provided:
- 276 health care referrals,
- assisted community members in submitting 57 citizenship applications,
- connected 61 small business owners with grant resources through our bilingual community service program.
Legislative Wins: we helped pass bills to
- limit ICE’s force in Virginia,
- fought to raise the minimum wage, and
- with the success and adaptation of HB 1278 and amends to Voting Rights Acts, which requires school boards to provide translated vital documents and professional interpretation for parents and increase accessibility of in-language voter resources across the commonwealth.
