The Development Manager will be involved in developing and executing individual giving campaigns, managing donor data, planning events, and creating content to engage supporters effectively. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing volunteers who may transition from active supporters to generous donors.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and supporter communication (70%)
- Work with Executive Director and Director of Administration to develop supporter relationship-building and individual giving strategy.
- Implement workplans and manage budgets to execute activities and events, including (but not limited to) event logistics, post-event appreciations, debriefs/evaluations, research, and vendor relationships
- Be the point person that other staff, Board, and supporters can turn to with regards to relationship-building with supporters
- Manage individual giving data, gifts, membership dues, and pledges, and other records in an accurate, timely, and secure manner in Hamkae Center’s community relationship manager (CRM) platform (EveryAction) and troubleshoot payment issues
- Provide fundraising, membership, and donor analysis reports as needed
- Ensure donor acknowledgements and other correspondence are sent in a timely manner
- Develop content used for external direct communications to Hamkae Center supporters, including (but not limited to) quarterly newsletters, end of year highlights, donation appeals, briefings, and certain website updates
Volunteer Management (20%)
- Identify volunteer needs across the organization by team to update and share volunteer opportunities on all digital platforms
- Screen, interview and onboard volunteers
- Manage volunteer data, including engagement, in Hamkae Center’s CRM
Teamwork (10%)
- Participate in organization-wide shared duties and expectations for full-time employees as assigned. Can include (but not limited to) participating in outreach events, supporting nonpartisan election protection activities on Election Day, promoting fundraising opportunities, and co-facilitating collaborative meetings

Required Key Competencies & Qualifications
- Prior work experience
- 3-6 years of relevant professional experience in development roles (nonprofit, political, etc.) such as fundraising and individual giving, event planning, and volunteer management with at least one year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Communications and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable being an external face of the organization and demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills. Prioritizes the importance of understanding others’ motivations and interests by actively listening and asking questions.
- Ability to listen and communicate effectively with different audiences (staff, community leaders, community members, etc.)
- Strong writing skills
- Within Hamkae Center: offering solutions and adjusted timelines to renegotiate deadlines when they won’t be met, ensuring your timeliness does not affect others’ work.
- Strategic proficiency
- Capable of listening carefully and connecting someone’s interest with an opportunity to engage at HC.
- Identifying needs and patterns in areas of responsibility based on review of past and current strategies related to fundraising from individuals and contributing that insight to strengthen individual giving and overall organizational strategic planning.
- Project & time management, problem solving
- Capable of demonstrating experience with event planning.
- Effectively managing time and deadlines by organizing work and responsibilities efficiently and coordinating projects and tasks to meet expectations as well as deadlines.
- Addressing errors and adjusting work to avoid making similar mistakes in the future while identifying solutions and anticipating problems by course-correcting when needed.

- Operating and applying basic tools and technical skills, like recording and analyzing information in a spreadsheet or database, to solve role-specific problems while managing and optimizing resources for individual and small team related projects.

Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Understanding of social media and other digital communication platforms
- Experience with CRMs to track contribution and engagement data
- Bilingual skills: Preference for an individual who can speak/write English and an Asian language (please specify language and proficiency level in your resume)

- Location: hybrid (primarily virtual but requires some in-person work in Northern Virginia)
- Job Type: full-time, FLSA exempt, regular employment
- Reports to: Director of Administration
- Pay: $65k
