Join Hamkae Center, Campus Vote Project, and NOVA’s Nighthawks Vote as we discuss what civic engagement is, why the Asian American voting bloc is important, the barriers the AAPI community faces in politics, and the importance of representation at all levels of government.
Our guest speaker: Irene Shin is the first Korean American woman elected to Virginia’s House of Delegates. She assumed office this January and her current term will run till January 2024. She was elected to represent House District 86 which encompasses parts of Chantilly, Herndon, Sterling, and the Franklin Farm communities in Northern Virginia. Irene is also the Executive Director of the Virginia Civic Engagement Table, a nonprofit organization that organizes communities to increase civic education and engagement across the commonwealth.
