Impacts
- Deepened ties with Asian American communities in key areas across Northern Virginia with direct voter outreach and tabling at grocery stores, schools, churches and mosques. Staff and community members had over 600 generative conversations with residents about local and national issues important to them, our available community services, and how to make their priorities heard through the ballot.Â
- Expanded infrastructure for improved teaching of AAPI histories in Virginia’s public K-12 classrooms. We identified needs of educators, built relationships with the five school divisions with the largest numbers of AAPI students, and provided ongoing consultation to the VA Department of Education to implement revised history & social sciences standards of learning.
- Made small business dreams into reality with hands-on technical assistance. We helped create nine jobs through growing five and starting two small businesses. We also successfully supported the owner of Seoul Soondae to receive a county grant, which allowed her to do much-needed interior renovations and empowered her to seek more small business resources.
Community Spotlight
A pastor and his wife received assistance with their naturalization applications at one of our citizenship clinics. After becoming U.S. citizens this past August, they were so grateful for our support that they invited us to host future clinics at their church!
