The Youth Leadership Coordinator will develop, recruit for, and implement Hamkae Center’s summer youth leadership program, New Leaders Collective (NLC), to create meaningful opportunities for college-age (18-24 year old) Asian Americans to learn about and engage with issue-based work in Virginia. Separately, the Youth Leadership Coordinator will facilitate meetings for Asian American youth in Virginia to develop their understanding and leadership related to our ongoing campaigns, as well as build strategic relationships with institutions and organizations that work with Asian American youth in Virginia to further collaboration and partnership.
Responsibilities
Youth Leadership Development (80%) 
- Hire and manage college-age Asian American participants for NLC, including providing coaching and direct feedback
- Strategically recruit participants in priority counties or places where we have existing, ongoing goals and work with communities most impacted by the issues
- Develop and implement a curriculum for NLC that emphasizes organizing and civic engagement skills through workshops, discussion, personal reflection, and hands-on application, with the goal of advancing ongoing education equity campaigns
- Facilitate biweekly meetings for Asian American youth to develop their understanding and leadership in a variety of social change topics related to our ongoing campaigns
- Integrate participants into existing opportunities for action with varying campaigns
- Support ongoing development of participants through relationship building, trainings on needs as they arise, and navigating tough conversations with youth about identity and social justice
- Train participants to be effective allies when working on issues by which they are not directly impacted, including understanding systems of racism and oppression, using appropriate language, and seeking input from people who are directly impacted
- Evaluate overall success of programs, identify opportunities for programmatic growth, and develop processes to implement changes
- Build strategic relationships with relevant institutions and organizations that work with college-age Asian Americans in Virginia
Miscellaneous (20%)  
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Participate in year-round organizing, civic engagement, and fundraising campaigns with rest of Hamkae Center team
- Carefully track time and communications to ensure appropriate assignment to c3 or c4, direct and grassroots lobbying, and electioneering
- Ensure planned curriculum and activities are c3 or c4 compliant depending on the context
- Provide data for reports as requested
- Other duties as assigned

Preferred:
- Prior experience working with Asian American youth in Virginia
- Prior experience developing and implementing curriculum
- Prior knowledge of or experience in education equity
- Has been a Virginia resident for 3+ years
- Bilingual in English and an Asian language
