PROTECTED THE TRUTH by organizing Asian American youth and educators in a multi-racial and multi-faith response to block passage of proposed whitewashed History and Social Science Standards of Learning (SOLs)
ORGANIZED FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGE – Our organizing and advocacy led to important changes that make it easier for more linguistically-marginalized communities to apply for and have accurate information about unemployment insurance. Changes include:
- 13-language phone line that goes beyond press 1 for English, press 2 for Spanish
- Using a private company to translate important documents instead of Google Translate
CELEBRATED OUR ROOTS and community power-building at our 10th anniversary fundraiser
Community Spotlight
After getting 1-on-1 small business counseling sessions, Mrs. Kang grew the confidence to set up her printing business, Virginia Printee. She feels more secure knowing that her family has more than 1 source of income, and is empowered to be able to do something on her own to support her family.
Our Impact in Numbers
- 2,500 in-language mailers sent to Asian American voters (Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Urdu, Punjabi)
- 2,196 Get Out the Vote (GOTV) calls made
- 92 health care referrals & applications submitted
- 90 citizenship applications & fee waivers submitted
- 20 small business owners supported
- 20 outreach events
